My grandparents used to live in a rainforest with moreton bay figs. When it rained, pools of different depths would form between the buttress roots.
Deep or dark water has always spooked me, so I'd sit there and gaze into these pools and wonder how deep they were.
Years later, day-dreaming in highschool, I would pass the time by traveling to an imaginary place - a hill in the clouds with fig trees and pools between their roots. Sometimes I would just sit on the hill and try to convince myself of the reality of the place, other times I would dive into the pools of the fig tree and emerge elsewhere.
